John C. Menihan
An Undiscovered American Master
1908-1992
John C. Menihan (1908-1992) chronicled six decades of American life — city skylines, sacred rituals, rural landscapes, and working people — all rendered with technical mastery, emotional depth, and a painter's devotion to place.
He never pursued acclaim; however, his work is represented in the collections of the British Museum in London, the Boston Athenaeum, the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, the New York Public Library, and other notable institutions.
Though represented in major collections, his body of work has been largely undiscovered. John C. Menihan’s legacy, once private, is now reemerging — piece by piece — from drawers, portfolios, and memory.
This site is dedicated to sharing that rediscovery with the world.
